The Routes of the Costa Verde Express 2024

The Routes of the Costa Verde Express 2024

Its history dates back to 1983 under the name Transcantábrico, considered the oldest tourist train in Spain. Later, two luxury trains were created based on this first Transcantábrico: Transcantábrico Gran Lujo and Transcantábrico Clásico. A few years ago, the Transcantábrico Clásico was transformed into what we now know as the Costa Verde Express, emulating the classic trains from the golden age of railroads, but with current comforts and technology.

Costa Verde Express and its main routes 2024 (6 days)

For 2024, the Costa Verde Express is scheduled to run 2 main routes of 6 days and 5 nights: Bilbao – Santander – Cabezón de la Sal – Santillana del Mar – Llanes – Picos de Europa – Oviedo – Gijón – Luarca – Ribadeo – Viveiro – Santiago de Compostela and its reverse route.
An exciting journey through northern Spain, known as Green Spain, with spectacular landscapes that can be enjoyed from the train windows as you travel through this beautiful train, sea, mountains, valleys, rivers… all the greenery that nature can offer. In addition to discovering the history and culture that these four communities of Spanish geography offer: Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia. Monuments with a lot of history, including several World Heritage Sites such as the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, pre-Romanesque monuments of Oviedo, and the cave of cave art at Altamira. Spectacular natural landscapes such as the Picos de Europa and its lakes, and the Beach of the Cathedrals. Interesting cities with history such as Bilbao and Gijón, not forgetting those wonderful charming towns that appear throughout the route such as in Cantabria (Cabezón de la Sal and Santillana del Mar), in Asturias (Llanes, Cangas de Onis, and Luarca) and in Galicia (Ribadeo, Viviero, and Ferrol)

Costa Verde Express its short routes 2024 (4 and 3 days)

Additionally, in 2024, the Costa Verde Express also offers new shorter itineraries of 4 days and 3 nights from Santiago de Compostela to Oviedo, where the Green Coast of northern Spain is also featured, but focused on Galicia and Oviedo; and 3 days and 2 nights from Oviedo to Bilbao and vice versa; and León to Bilbao, this last itinerary very focused on the Romanesque from Palencia and other monuments of great interest like the Cathedral of León and others from this beautiful and historic city.
On the Costa Verde Express, you will also enjoy excellent gastronomy with local products, on the train itself and in renowned restaurants selected during the journey.
