Spanish Green Coast: The Cantabrian Cornice

Spanish Green Coast: The Cantabrian Cornice

One of the most beautiful places in northern Spain is its Costa Verde and one of the most emblematic tourist trains in Spain traverses this area, namely the Costa Verde Express, a luxury train that runs along the Cantabrian Cornice. Through its windows, travelers can observe how the meadows and cliffs blend with the sea, creating spectacular panoramic landscapes. A unique panorama where nature, the sea, and the fishing villages create an idyllic and wonderful setting, making the journey on this train pleasant and grandiose.

The name Costa Verde stems from the color of this coastline, characterized by sandy coves and imposing cliffs, and occasionally deep estuaries where fishing villages shelter. Inland, green meadows and forests dominate, nestled under the mountains predominantly with pines and eucalyptus.

The Costa Verde Express along the Green Coast of northern Spain

**In the Costa Verde, the blues of the sea, the golden sands of its beaches, and a green blanket of its meadows and mountains prevail throughout the Costa Verde Express route, captivating landscapes that will fascinate the traveler. Between landscape and landscape, the route of the Costa Verde Express train reveals charming seaside villages, fishing towns that stand out in these landscapes with the white of their houses. Among these communities, we highlight Cabezón de la Sal, Santillana del Mar, Llanes, Luarca, Ribadeo… welcoming us with planned stops by the Costa Verde Express, where we will learn about their history and culture from the expert tourist guides of the Costa Verde Express.
Besides these charming towns, the Costa Verde Express route also offers the opportunity to get to know and explore other places with their special charm, cities full of history with interesting monuments, cities that we will discover along the route such as Bilbao, Oviedo, Gijón, Santiago de Compostela…

Spectacular natural landscapes on the Costa Verde Express Route

**Special attention is deserved for visits to natural sites, the Picos de Europa National Park in Asturias, a mountain range located in the central part of the Cantabrian Mountains, which has formed over 300 million years to present its current appearance. Lake Enol is the most famous in the Picos de Europa National Park for its beauty and location, a glacial lake located in the Principality of Asturias. In addition, in Galicia, we find another place with special charm, the Beach of the Cathedrals, a unique natural monument that gains its beauty when the tide is low.
